Poultry

Our poultry is raised on pasture where they forage on grass and insects; they are fed a morning ration of organic grains and our own organic food scraps, as available, then forage throughout the day.
    • Our egg birds are free range during the day and closed in ventilated housing at night to keep them safe from night predators.
    • Our meat birds are raised in movable hoop houses (moved daily) giving them access to fresh pasture while being protected from predators.

Our Egg Distribution procedure:

We keep an egg distribution list that is updated yearly, prior to each season.

Egg distribution starts two weeks after Spring Daylight Savings Time and
ends two weeks prior to Fall Daylight Savings Time
which is around April—October of each year.

To be included on the list, contact us with your name, e-mail address, phone #, how many dozen you would like and at what intervals (e.g. bi-weekly, monthly) to confirm your commitment for the season or for the next open season.  You may also sign up on our greenfamilyfarm.locallygrown.net page.

The list is added to on a first come, first serve basis.  Then, the list is maintained in order of seniority based on length of prior commitments.  Those who remain on the list consecutively from season to season will retain their place.  Those who end their commitments are removed from the list and added back to the bottom of the list if they wish to re-instate their commitment in the future.  Once someone drops off, the names below move up in seniority.

If you are not on the list and are not ready to make a seasonal commitment, you can still place an order with us; however, we will only be able to fill that order if there are eggs left over after all the commitment orders have been filled.  Committed buyers receive a discount on the price, all others pay full price.

Note: farm fresh eggs are in high demand and chickens don’t always lay according to our wishes/schedules.  Being on the list will not always guarantee that your order will be filled each time, especially if there are many orders above you.  If we will not be able to fill your order, we will contact you prior to your next scheduled pick-up day.  We often have a waiting list.

We raise our birds naturally therefore, our hens rest for molting and rejuvenation during the winter months when daylight hours are at their minimums.  This is a natural process that we choose not to disturb which is why we do not offer eggs for sale in off-season periods.  If you contact us during off-season, we will add you to the list and notify you when the next season commences.
