Hello All!

Things are hot but, we press on!

Despite the heat, we have baby chicks running around the farm right now, with lots of tall weeds to forage in (yep, this time of year there are lots of weeds). The cattle and sheep would like more grass but, the grasshoppers thrive in this weather which keeps the hens fed nicely. I love to stop and watch multiple hens chasing after one grasshopper to see who gets the prize – fun on the farm! And, I love to see those new baby eggs! Those are eggs hatched by young hens for the first time (see pics below) – the eggs get bigger after about a week but, the first ones are what we like to call “practice eggs” and usually have no yolks. We like to dry them out and give away as souvenirs to visitors of the farm (want one when you are here – just ask!).

We continue to raise out our lambs and pigs for processing in late September, and looking forward to that harvest. We have a few left and sold out on lamb early last season, so be sure to get your orders in now. (Lamb must be the new craze right now because we get asked for it more than any other type of meat we grow!). We are also taking orders for a 1/2 or whole hog.

We did not implement our egg drop off routine this year since we have been putting all our energy into building the farm lounge. Besides, we have been making lots of walk-in egg sales directly at the farm – we are getting a good amount of traffic lately. We plan to pick this back up in 2025.

Progress on The Farm Lounge is going well, and we are working on planning an open house in September to show off what we have done so far. It may not look like much but, remember, David and I are doing this by ourselves (no contractors) so, to us, it is a monumental accomplishment. See our latest video which shows some of it here: Give Me One Reason To Keep Farming

We are just SO excited for the future of the farm! We are all in and thank you all for being there with us!
